Cesarean Awareness Month Brings Governors Choices to our Attention

I know there are a few here who are from Connecticut, but I wanted to reach out to the rest of you and inform you of something that took place this week between the International Cesarean Awareness Network of Connecticut and our Governors office. (Jodi Rell)

Since April is Cesarean Awareness Month, I decided like the majority of ICAN leaders from other states, I would submit a proclamation to the governors office requesting to have Cesarean Awareness Month recognized by our governor. Silly me thinking that our FEMALE, MOTHER and GRANDMOTHER governor would actually care.

A couple weeks went by and I had not heard anything from the office so I called, spoke with a very polite young lady named Caitlin, who kind of "pushed" my proclamation up to the "front of the line" since April was almost over.

Two days later I get this e-mail back.

Good morning Danielle,
I apologize for not getting back to you sooner but your request for Caesarean Awareness Month was not approved. Everything that leaves the Governor’s office has to be approved by the Governor’s Legal Staff and for whatever reason, Cesarean Awareness Month was not approved. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please feel free to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,
Caitlin

So I call the office... and want to speak with someone in the legal department that denied recognizing Cesarean Awareness Month.
I speak to a lady by the name of Stacy.
This is the excuse that I get..

I got a call back from someone in Governor Jodi Rell's legal staff.

They cannot have the governor "go on record" supporting our CAUSE because it is too controversial. Saying that XY and Z can happen may "offend" people.

I tried to explain that we are just simply trying to educate the general public and we DO support Cesareans when they are necessary and life saving.

In light of this happening, ICAN of Connecticut is asking that ANYONE who is passionate about lowering the astronomical rates of Cesarean's not only in your area, but the country, Call, write, or contact the office anyway you can and express your disappointment in Jodi Rell's choice of not choosing to support Cesarean Awareness Month and helping to educate pregnancy women and women in general!!!
